Tafsir of Surah Al-Ahzaab 33:23
﴿مِّنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رِجَالٌ صَدَقُوا مَا عَاهَدُوا اللَّهَ عَلَيْهِ فَمِنْهُم مَّن قَضَىٰ نَحْبَهُ وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَنتَظِرُ وَمَا بَدَّلُوا تَبْدِيلًا﴾
Translation of the meaning
Among the believers are men true to what they promised Allāh. Among them is he who has fulfilled his vow [to the death], and among them is he who awaits [his chance]. And they did not alter [the terms of their commitment] by any alteration -

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah
أي عهده الذي عاهد الله عليه فقاتل حتى قتل أو عاش. و " النحب " النذر والعهد.«مجموع الفتاوى» 28/460{ومنهم من ينتظر} قضاءه إذا كان قد وفى البعض فهو ينتظر تمام العهد. وأصل القضاء: الإتمام والإكمال.«مجموع الفتاوى» 28/461
