Tafsir of Surah At-Tawba 9:101
﴿وَمِمَّنْ حَوْلَكُم مِّنَ الْأَعْرَابِ مُنَافِقُونَ وَمِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ مَرَدُوا عَلَى النِّفَاقِ لَا تَعْلَمُهُمْ نَحْنُ نَعْلَمُهُمْ سَنُعَذِّبُهُم مَّرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَذَابٍ عَظِيمٍ﴾
Translation of the meaning
And among those around you of the bedouins are hypocrites, and [also] from the people of Madīnah. They have persisted in hypocrisy. You, [O Muḥammad], do not know them, [but] We know them. We will punish them twice [in this world]; then they will be returned to a great punishment.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah
فأولئك إنما كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يحكم فيهم كحكمه في سائر المؤمنين؛ ولو حضرت جنازة أحدهم صلى عليها ولم يكن منهيا عن الصلاة إلا على من علم نفاقه؛«مجموع الفتاوى» 7/214Imam Ibn al-Qayyim
وليس ما قاله هؤلاء بقوى فإن الله سبحانه نفى عن رسوله معرفة أعيان أولئك المنافقين هذا صريح اللفظ وإنما جاء نفي معرفة نفاقهم من جهة اللزوم فهو صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يعلم وجود النفاق في أشخاص معينين وهو موجود في غيرهم ولا يعرف أعيانهم«بدائع الفوائد» 2/63
