Tafsir of Surah Al-Ankaboot 29:38
﴿وَعَادًا وَثَمُودَ وَقَد تَّبَيَّنَ لَكُم مِّن مَّسَاكِنِهِمْ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ فَصَدَّهُمْ عَنِ السَّبِيلِ وَكَانُوا مُسْتَبْصِرِينَ﴾
Translation of the meaning
And [We destroyed] ʿAad and Thamūd, and it has become clear to you from their [ruined] dwellings. And Satan had made pleasing to them their deeds and averted them from the path, and they were endowed with perception.

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim
وقد وصف سبحانه ثمود بانها كفرت عن علم وبصيرة بالحق«مفتاح دار السعادة ومنشور ولاية العلم والإرادة» 1/92فهذا التبصير لم يوجب وجود الهداية؛ لأنه سبحانه لم يرد وجودها وإنما أراد وجود مجرد البصيرة، فما شاء كان وما لم يشأ لم يكن.«مدارج السالكين بين منازل إياك نعبد وإياك نستعين» 3/457
